We have been here a month now. Beltana is a semi-ghost town and nobody disturbs us. The loneliness and quietness is almost frightening and not for a busy city dweller. We have a whole house with 6 rooms for us to spread out in. After 4 years on the bikes we have been feeling very much at home, although the house does not belong to us and our stay is only temporary.
We are very happy to be here to relax and re-charge our batteries after struggling with the wind and the Australian outback and sometimes more than 70 kg in our luggage. We survived a dust storm with winds up to 120 kph, and crossed 160 km of dirt road without water.

After a journey of more than 4 years, of which 29.581 km were by bicycle, 11.479 km by train, bus, truck and ship, so all together 41.060 km. We spent 1.967 hours on our bicycles and got through 24 tires, 10 bicyclechains, 3 broken rims, and 4 broken frames.
Over the 1487 days we sat in the saddle for an average of 2 hours per day making about 20 km per day. We tried to make the whole distance by bicycle, but expiring visas, sickness, areas extremely dangerous for foreigners like parts of Pakistan and Iran, or damage to the bicycle forced us sometimes to load our bicycles on trains, buses or trucks. On average we spent almost 550 EURO per month, so in 50 months we used almost 28.000 EURO. This money was used to pay for everything: visas, parts of the bicycle, bus and train tickets, packages etc.
We took the landroute, crossed 10 timeszones and 19 countries Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.
